Shine a flashlight directly into it, and the lights will go off.

I think if you unplug the sensor your head lights and running lights will always be on too.

Be patient, though. I think there's a delay before the computer adjusts the headlights on or off. This is so if you go through a tunnel while the lights are on, they won't turn on right away, or if you are in shade and come through some light, the lights won't turn off right away. Not sure the delay time, maybe 10 seconds?
