I had a sound before on my pass lock, donno if its the same. The problem with mine was that the little tongue that goes in and out by the door latch or its mechanism would rub when it moves (lock, unlock) and make a high pitched rushing sound, kinda like pressured air or vacume or something like that. Turns ou it was because of the weather. Lasted for couple of weeks and went away by iself.

donno if yours is the same, but as you said it sure isnt the a/c compressor if its comming from the door.
