Typically a vehicle depending on outside factors which would mean a rig for rig comparison having a larger displacement engine in one versus the other could improve MPG in larger engine. The theroy being the larger engine gets dead weight etc. to cruising speed quicker at which time that will be the best MPG band for the rig with less laboring and hold that speed easier.

My best example was with a new 1977 solid black Pontiac Gran Prix Hurst/Olds T-top edition that had the 400CID with twin quadrajet carbs. I was stunned on a long trip once that even though the MPH was 55MPH limit I got 22MPG doing 75MPH plus versus when the X would drive it at 60MPH tops. The engine just seem to handle the weight better at higher speed due to more momentum for uphill etc. Not sure the reasons but, the jewel of a ride never failed to do better MPG at high speed and RPM's.

Well did a lousy talk on kinectic energy etc. but, most of you I'm sure understand better what I'm getting at better than i could say it.
