You have to go from off to key lock and hold both buttons down on remote until it displays.

I just did that to mine yesterday, the proceedure in the manuals works perfectly. I think I had to keep the buttons on the remote held down during the entire thing. And it did take a few seconds for the display to come up, but it worked.
key in "lock"
Hold both unlock and lock
Press reset stem till the right RFA
by the way RFA=Remote Feedback Action ??? just curious
