Be aware that hollow point "cop killer" bullets are legal to sell. However illegal to possess in many states...
With the new administration new Federal laws will be coming

,..that's why the shelves are empty...
as far as penetration goes, law enforcement personnel wearing body armor/bullet-proof jackets should be probably more concerned about fmj rounds then hp's? HP ammo is legal in CA as far as I know; may change down the barack road, who knows. I'll stock up to make sure I won't run out.

Re: magnum ammo suggestions please, thx
For self protection in handgun I have carried 2 clips each with different type round as well as hae alternated in some kind of sequence where I know something is coming up whether I fire off inapropriate round our manually eject to get to rounds.
Be very cautious as to what you use in home if you hae wife or babies slepping in house. Go with heavy grain hollow point so it will not accidently penetrate walls. In a test with a FMJ 9mm it went through 3 rooms of walls before it hit a 2x4 stopping.
Just some things to think about.

.... no I definitely wouldn't want to hit something what I didn't intend to.
That Federal Hydra-Shok JHP ammo which EasyEd mentioned earlier sounds about right and has great reviews; I'll buy some.
oh here is mine, stock photo
ordered 5 boxes of Federal Premium Hydra-Shok from Cabelas. thanks guys!
the only thing I dislike is that lock; you can see the lock hole right above the cylinder release slide..why? why the lock?

Re: magnum ammo suggestions please, thx
Dave Hydro's are the way to go. Keep in mind taking mass down is best achieved by large grain slow muzzle speed. The better knock down comes from subsonic bullet travel speed.
Hydro's are so deadly because inside the hollow point is a tougher metal sabot that as bullet strikes the hp does intended work softing target area but, sabot is forced into target deeper by it's intended design and the mass behing it that has not begun exspansion yet.
Hydro's are nasty baby's.

Re: magnum ammo suggestions please, thx
Based on old laws done away with not to long ago Ken I was going to have register as an armoury due to the amount of rounds I have stored in my home.
As mentioned I have many weapons to deal with threats from many different distances plus larger amounts of ammo per caliber/type depending on how close the threat is or could get.

Sorry to change the subject but it's related to the ammo topic. What would you guy's consider to be the best semi-automatic handgun for home protection. My wife likes her little .38 but I want a little something more for the house.

Re: magnum ammo suggestions please, thx
I like the Florida law...
My handgun is an 18 1/2 inch barrel 6 shot pump shotgun with a pistol grip...a little bigger then yours but so much more adaptable...
its just not fun having to wear a coat in summer to conceal it...

nice! I like the pistol grip on yours....I'm probably going to buy one of those as well. wife will feel safer that way. neighbor has a variety of shotguns, mostly over/under but a nice pump action won't hurt to have at home..like to have her by the door ..just in case

Re: magnum ammo suggestions please, thx
First thing you have to figure out is how large a caliber she is willing to tolerate. Take her to a in door gun rental range and see what she can tolerate. Remember her hands or most ladies are smaller than men. You have to take all this into account. You can get most any caliber handgun in a size of grip to fit women. You can get a .410 revolver with a small grip. So try it out with rentals.
If it is for in home only a mossberg .410 shotgun is great.

it won't hurt anything to stock up a bit..
we don't have weapons around but I'm working on it to improve. Actually I looked seriously into buying a Glock 21, dealer has a brand new one there but I wanted something more managable for the starter. 100% reliabilty was the reason I grabbed S&W over the Glock

Re: magnum ammo suggestions please, thx
Have had my Glock 23 for longer than I can remember. I think since it came out. Has been carried concealed every day including rain mud on the farm. I mean my 1200 acre rice farm jungle type humidity etc. It has no telling how many rounds of practice shots and just taken to concealment shooting test and retrain every 4 years with no prep and fired pefect 100 score target's which consist of 50 rounds total. This pistol has at all time had the first internal laser I bought installed after the gun was bought and it has never failed to hit center mass at 25 yards and under as well as head shots at 10 yards or less. All this OK partner You got the shot at 10 yards or more is BS. If I had someone who shot as much as me then I would tell them to shoot knowing they would do it knowing when I said it I knew I was going to die by one of their hands.
Point is I do not understand why Glock does not seem to have the dependability factor with it. It was built to be tossed in the mud or sand and pick it up kill someone or something.
My opinion only is Glock should have been our military choice for sidearm. The lower weight of the pistol would have allowed for a significant increase of ammo carried just as the light weight of M-16 did and is one of many reasons it has been our nations military rifle for a long time. Yes I have heard of stories of Glock going off if dropped so do not go there. It landed in positions that purposely caused gun to go off.
Everyone has their ideas and rumors they heard. I know my Glock has proved itself over and over in conditions most will and never will put their pistol through consistantly. Smith is a very good weapon as is Browning, Barreta, and so on.
I just know I never feel hesitant about recommending a Glock.

Taz - I concur. My daily carry is a G17 with Trijicon night sights and a crimson trace laser. My wife carries a G26 and the night stand gun is a G17. I would never hesitate recommending a glock to anyone.
