Me too! The whole fromt of my mirrors is like a chrome cap. I would like them to just be black. I am wondering if they come off, and if there are black ones for it, or would one have to paint/coat the chrome ones.

Not sure how, but the chrome on my mirrors was painted over to match my flat black mirrors. I only know this because when it got scratched, I could see the chrome.

On the old style mirrors they make a black out overlay that can be purchased.

I can only offer advice here and I am not 100% sure. I changed the mirror glass in my 2005 mirrors to the Muth signal glass. Which I highly recommend. Anyway, in the 2005 mirrors the glass just clips to ring behind the mirror glass. It just pops off. The ring is on the motor assemly. Then the motor assembly is mounted with a coupled of screws. The outside back of the mirror is screwed from the inside. You could also download the instruction sheet to install the Muth glass for you year H2. That would give you the instructions to get the glass out.
